Upset Saturday

Northwestern beats Iowa 21-7 in Des Moines, behind the resurgent running of soph Tyrell Sutton. Below, Eric Peterman may have some long stories to tell after his TD catch in the second quarter.

Kentucky beats Gergia (no O) 24-20 for Homecoming with a Tony Dixon TD with a minute left - quite a weekend for football in the state of Kentucky, yes?

Mississippi State handles Alabama 24-16 based on a great defensive effort including a "pick-six" by LB Quinton Culberson. You may have noticed that I gave you a heads-up to expect the Bulldogs to do better than smart money expected in Risk Capital, Week 10. I certainly didn't expect an upset win and their first SEC win in 2006 - tip of the cap for Sylvester Croom getting a win over his alma mater. Fantasy players, make a note about freshman RB Anthony Dixon, he looked particularly talented against a pretty good Bama D.

To a lesser degree, LSU and their #1 defense according to Fantasy College Blitz upset Tennessee, 28-24. It was BCS #13 over #8, so it is hard to really call this an upset. If you watch the game-winner replay, I do not think that JaMarcus Russel meant for the pass to go to Early Doucet as there were two other receivers in the shadow of the goal post right behind Doucet.

In the smaller schools, Buffalo scores 41 unanswered points to beat Kent State 41-14 and takes the shine off the Golden Flashes potential to go to a minor bowl game. Buffalo hadn't won since the opener, which was the coaching debut of former Nebraska QB legend Turner Gill.

It is about 9PM EDT, so I may be typing up Oklahoma State or Texas A&M...probably not, but a Cowboy can dream.

(UPDATE 9am on Sunday: Thought not...but going for it on 4th and 1 from your own 29? Priceless Stoops high-risk play there that paid off of him. And no offensive TDs from the Cowboys - wow, that Texas D must be much better than the 111th pass rank suggests.)
